Hi all! My name is Samantha and I am an adventure lover! I enjoy camping and kayaking which is a hobby I share with my boyfriend of five years. He is a major part of my life so being able to share a love for our hobbies is so much fun! I enjoy traveling and taking our camper to different places. We have gone kayaking in multiple different places from New York, to Indiana, and we eventually want to travel farther. I love to encourage others to seek adventure and enjoy it because it is an amazing part of life.
I also enjoy writing in my journal, or on my blog, or reading something other than a college textbook ( I don't get to do this often). I created my blog in hopes that others could relate to my college experience and where I am in my life right now. I enjoy writing in my journal because it's like my own private listener, it knows all my secrets but it never reveals them. Also, when I get a chance to read, I enjoy romantic books, especially those that involve an adventure along the way. The most recent and one of my favorites is The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks. It brought together my love of the country, romance, adventure, and suspense. That combination makes for a great book in my opinion! It's been an interesting semester with you all! Good luck on your future writings and endeavors! Samantha |
This semester has been a crazy journey. There have been so many things going on and so many different writings. I enjoyed writing most of them and others not so much. In this ePortfolio, you will find my diary of sorts of this semesters writings which includes much of the research essay journey. I think you will also notice my love for killer whales which is what the research project was based around. My love started in a different direction when I first wrote the research proposal and then changed a bit after I remembered something I feel very strongly about. Also, you will find an extra out of class writing piece as I didn't want to post my research proposal again and was given permission to show more of my outside work.
The process for my writings was usually first thinking about what I'm going to write. It was always easier for me to get the thought of the topic in my head, and then work on the different points and aspects of that topic to write about before I started writing. Then I would write some of those ideas down, think on them a bit more and move onto the prewriting phase. This is where I would bring all my thoughts together, write them down or type them down, and then organize them. For me organizing is easier after everything is out of your head and on the paper. Next, I would post them for peer review. After that, it was time to edit.
I must admit, editing is one of my weaknesses. Not because I am bad at it but because after all the writing process and going over peer's papers, it's hard to have that motivation to edit my own. However, at the same time I feel it is one of my strengths. I enjoy editing if I'm not exhausted from writing. I don't catch all grammar errors but I can catch quite a few I believe. Then if spell check didn't catch something, those are pretty easy for me to see.
Finally, I have learned a lot from this class. Especially works cited format. That was something that I have learned before but haven't had to apply as much as I have in this class. I think to myself I contributed more attention to my writing as well as others. It's better to carefully read others writing as well because I am there to help them, and help improve on anything they may have missed as they do for me. I also learned a lot about visual analysis. I always knew pictures can have an impact on a piece of writing, but I didn't know the effects themselves and what they can say about a writing so, that was interesting. Also, I never thought of myself as a great writer. I read others works and feel they are so much better than mine and they are so good. However, I realized while others may be stronger in their writing, that doesn't mean mine isn't any good. That is something I will need to remember every time I write.
